Friday Night Games: Ancient Naval

Friday, 10th January saw Mat put on an ancient naval game at Mike N's gaff. Models are from Mat's collection.

The game saw John and Dave, controlling the Persians and their allies, whilst Nigel did Stirling work for the Athenians.

Game was completed in one night with a win for eth Athenians.

Dave's 2mm Romans

Dave brought along his first stand of 2mm Romans, designed for use with the 'Stength & Honour' rule set, these figures are by Antonine Minustures.

The 120 x 80mm base represents a full Roman legion and thus the games will be on a truly epic scale, with multiple legions facing hordes of enemies.

Friday Night Games: Romans v Sassanids

This was the latest in a series of two games played over two weeks, (22nd & 29th March), pitting Rupert's 28mm Sassanid army against his Late Roman Army.

The game used Rupert's well respected ancient rules and was also hosted by him. Week One saw Mat, Phil and Steve play the Sassinids, whilst John and Dave played the Romans.

After a swift Roman loss in week one, sides were swapped with Mat, Steve and Phil play the Romans, whilst Mike W, Mike N and Dave played the Sassinids, who won equally quickly in week two!

Friday Night Games: Ancient Naval

High jinx in the Mediterranean with a Naval conflict between those crazy Greeks and whacky Persians.

Friday 24th November, saw  a gripping game  put on by Mat T  using his own models and rules at Mike N's gaff. The game ended up as a strategic win for the Greeks as the Persians were denied the ability to meet their objectives. However, the Persian fleet consisting of Sidonese and allied Greek fleet performed the best on the night.

The squadron that definitely performed the worst was the Persian pentacosters, commanded by Mikey N. These guys lost 60% of their number in one game turn  with the rest fleeing for the Asian coast to face Xerxes wrath....

15mm Punic Wars

Recently discovered are a series of photos and documents from old club games on an old CD. I am publishing them here for posterity.

The photos on the CD is dated 26/11/2001, so guessing that this game was about or before this date.

More on Ancient Chinese Armies

One of the Warring States Ancient Chinese armies for DBA in 6mm, is the almighty Chin.

In front are 3 elements of Crossbow

2nd line, on army photo above, on the left, 2 elements of Psiloi light infantry, and 4 elements of loony Warband on the right

Back line, 1 cavalry element t on the left, 2 Heavy chariot elements (General in the one with the parasol, as are all the other generals). These are treated as Knights in the rules.

And finally 1 element of Light Horse.

13 units, but there are options to have choices to make up the 12 elements, in this case, either 1 Psiloi or 1 Light Horse.

The other armies are similar, some spear heavy, some crossbow heavy

Another shows close ups of the chariots. The General could be one of the three Ting brothers, Bo, Lu or Shu (work it out!)

And finally, one of the walled towns, in this case the town of Pi Sha. Note the tower which is slightly leaning. The buildings in the middle are not stuck down.
