Friday Night Games - Dr Who

Friday 9/5/26 and 16/5/26 saw two linked Dr Who scenarios put on by Mat at Rupert's establishment, set in a period when the Dalek Emperor was hunting down renegade Daleks that had been cast out of the Empire after a failed revolt.

The game table

Rebel Daleks scouring the crash site of an Imperial Flying Saucer

Rebel daleks had been scattered across the Galaxy in prison cubes, several of which had landed thousands of years ago on Earth. The scenarios we played represented Imperial Dalek forces coming to reclaim the Dalek prisoners to incorporate into the Imperium again. Why do this? Well the Daleks had developed technology to reprogram the rebel Dalek minds and make them loyal again....

The Imperial stronghold set-up in an old castle.

Nothing can really be that easy can it! The scenarios played Imperial & Rebel Dalek factions against each other and the inhabitants of Earth....

Imperial Daleks about to be accosted by the Doctor himself

Imperial Daleks were commanded by Steve & John, Rebel daleks by Mark & Mike W whilst the forces of Earth were played by Mike N & Rupert. Mat umpired.

Friday Night Games: Dr Who in Cornwall

Friday 24th October saw the latest in the Club's ongoing series of 28mm Dr Who games, in this episode we see the good Doctor and his companions in Cornwall trying to thwart a joint Sea Devil & Silurian attempt to take over the region from the 'pink monkey' humans who currently inhabit the surface loactions.

The Sea Devils and their allied Sea monsters, all from Mat's collection.

As previously noted the rules are adapted by John from a set originally published in Wargames Illustrated (link in previous post) and the figures were supplied by various club members - who get their names shouted out below. Note we didn't get any photos of the human forces painted by Mike W, John and Mark.

Dispite some controversy within the club regarding the validity of Dr Who as a true historical period, we had a full house of players. The Sea Devils were played by Mat & Nigel, whilst Mike W & Steve played the Silurian faction.

Merman Squad Leader for this group of Sea Devils...

On the side of humaity wa sthe Doctor and his compaions, played by Rupert, whilst Phil & Mark played the UNIT troopers that were on table. Dave & MIke N had command of a group of Human Survivors plus some local militia. We even had Grahame pop his head in to have a look around, with a promise to attend more evenings in future!

A Sea Devil squad with attached Sea Monsters, two giant Lobsters and an Octopus, all of which transpired to be capable of moving on the land...

The Octopus and it's Sea Devil Handlers. All figures by Mat.

The sleepy Cornish Fishing Village before the attack.

The attack started with the emergence of the Sea Devils and their creatures from the harbour, whilst on the hills behind the village Silurians appeared from the local Tin Mine.

Siluruans advance behind the village sea front,
with allied Octopus visible in the distance.

The humans took the option to dig in and await the alien attackers, these attackers managed to cros smost of the tabletop before coming in to range of human weapons, a mix of ballistic and energy waepons.

Accompanied by a second squad ...

Pretty much the high tide mark of the alien advance,
concentrated fire form the humans caused mounting casualties to both
the Sead Devils but espacially to the Silurians

First blood went to teh Siluruians when they spotted UNIT troopers hiding in a house, tehy let rip with blaster fire killing two of the humans. However, in return eth UNIT troopers unleashed a torrent of MG and rilfle fire that rocked the Silurian squad, killing 5 of them outright.

The Octopus is peppered with shots at the Market Cross
but it lives to fight on a few more turns

On the Sea Devil front these guys engaged with teh bishop at the local church who was supported by various other human fighters and a long running melee and fire fight ensured. Lack of range to eth Sea Devil weaponry eventually told its own tale.

Keen eyed viewers will catch a glimpse of the Doctor as he dashes from cover

A Silurian squad is targeted by MG & Rifle fire,
5 of these guys fall as a result.
Within a couple of turns they are all dead....

The game resulted in a decisive victory for humanity and the aliens return to the sea and the mines to lick their wounds and maybe fight another day!
