Junkers 52 Transport Aircraft

AHPC VX: From Mike W - Warhammer Fantasy Goblin Wolf Riders and 28mm Arthurians Skullz Squirrell

 When your Greenskin army already has 40 or so Goblin Wolf Riders the question is do you need another 10 of the little guys!

Completed unit, wolves were undercoated grey, drybrushed white and then give a coat of Army Painter Rune Grey to give them some depth.

The answer is No! I don't need them but I do want them! And I have more to get painted...

Another view of the unit focusing on the command group, in my opinion focusing painting time on some obvous details such as the wolves' mouths, teeth and tongues distracts the viewers eyes away form the less detailed parts!

Over the last few months I have been pulling together Goblin and Wolf parts from eBay and combined with old spares sprues in the loft and garage  I have been able to put together a new unit for the Wolf Rider wing of my army.

Here is that new unit, 10 x Wolf Riders, in the past I have armed my Wolf Rider units with spear and shield and shunned their lighter bow armed brethren. This unit has been given a bow as well as spear and shield, so I can field them as either type.

I'm also looking to raise a purely bow armed unit as well if the spare parts allow me to put enough suitable figures together but at present I'm short of what is needed.

The remaining four goblins, you can clearly see they are armed with both Spear and Bow.

Next up is a unit of 10 x 28mm Arthurian Archers, constructed from the Gripping Beast Late Roman Infantry kit.

I have fixed things up by swapping out some of the Gripping Beast Heads for Victrix counterparts as well as adding a couple of shields to vary the look and feel.

I'm not sure if it is accurate to show the archers placing arrows in the ground ready to fire, but I had some of the Perry arrows in my bits box - so used them

I painted these figures in grey tunics with blue trim to allow me to add a couple of figures I had painted earlier in this Challenge to give a tabletop strength of 12. Next week more Arthurian Infantry and more Greenskin Odds & Ends and maybe a surprise item, if I have time.

AHPC XV: From GrahameH - Spanish Reconquista 15mm Legio Heroica and Modern French Foreign Legion

 As mentioned in my last posted I had decided to start an Impetus army after listening to the brilliant interview of of Lorenzo Sartori on the Yarkshire Gamers Podcast (a second plug for you Ken, not that you probably need it). 

Sartori is the Italian author of the Impetus rule set, and as I was struggling to decide what to paint next, listening to the interview was rather fortuitous. Hence a Impetus army made by an Italian figure manufacturer. 

The army however, is Spanish so the theme seemed to die off a bit here. All the figures are 15mm Legio Heroica, sadly it would seem no longer in production after the passing of the owner. The mounted units are made up of 9 mounted figures and the infantry 16. 

The Spanish Reconquista Army 

Its a smallish army consisting of 10 mounted units and 6 infantry.

One C-in-C and two sub generals (28pts)

Two Hildalgos Units (Basically mounted Knights) (72pts) 

Two more Hildalgos Units (72pts)

I have added Spanish shields to these as they figures are from the Crusade Range and they came with kite and round shields.

Yet again, Peter Pig tempted me with a discount voucher just before the challenge. Having no will power whatsoever I purchased some Modern French Foreign Legion figures. Then realised I would need some transport for them. So, while the Reconquistas bases were drying I painted the vehicles below.

Friday Night Games: The Battle of Cerigmoza, 1503

Friday 28th February, saw us all reconvene at Rupert's for a second week of Italian Wars fun and games, this week we refought the Battle of Cerigmoza, which occurred a few weeks after last week's refought Battle of Seminara.

Seminara had been fought on the 'Toe of Italy', this Battle was on the 'Heel of Italy' with the French and their Swiss troops, looking to check Spanish armies uniting and creating an even larger problem for the French.

This week the Spanish were commanded by Mike N, John and Steve, whilst the old stalwarts Mike W, Mat and Dave commanded the French army.

The difference this time was that the French Command had learn the hard lessons from the week before and improved their initial deployment set-outs and with a better understanding of the rules, they were much more effective in getting their powerful Swiss pike blocks into contact with the enemy and checking the Spanish Horse wings with their own balanced mounted wings!

Both armies attempted to secure the advantage on the flanks, with spirited fights extending through out the game on both sides.

Gradually the French prevailed on both flanks, but on the French right the victory was Pyric and thus  no advantage was really gained. On the French left, it went better, with the Spanish ultimately pushed back and French units, including a supporting pike block, turning the Spanish flank.

In the centre the Spanish strategy had been to hold their positions on the slope, behind the dried stream and force the French had to attack .

This week, better coordination between pike and shot allowed the French to engage their pike blocks as well as sustain ongoing fire into he enemy.

A French pike block centre right refused to engage much of the game, but the two Swiss pike blocks did Stirling work in the centre and centre left.

The left most block, immediately routed a German Landsknechts block and then whittled down a Spanish block before breaking that. 

By the time the central Swiss pike bloke (it had been stopped by heavy fire and a Spanish block), the Spanish flank had been turned and the umpire called the game at that point, a victory to the French.
