AHPC XVI: From Mike W: More 28mm Crossbowmen, Egyptian & Greek Undead and 15mm Epic AWI Infantry (166 Points)

Another varied mix of figures and subjects this week, with hopefully 2 more Squirrel points! New to this year's challenge are a group of Warlord Games Epic 15mm AWI Infantry, painted up as a Militia Unit, curently I have only finished two bases of these little guys but I have a few other Epic bases if I get round to them.

40 x American AWI Militiamen

A view of the left flank of these Militiamen

I made use of speed paints to do most of the heavy lifting on these guys, just a varied mix of jacket colours really. The flag was taken form the internet as a generic Militia standard.

And from the right flank whilst in column of march

Next is a return to the Egyptian Undead theme which sees me finally (after maybe about 15 years!) finishing a box of GW Khemri Charriots...

I have done at least one of the other two in previous challenges, however, as a kitbashing execise, this one has seen me replace one of the crewmen with a spare mummy figure, (leftover after from an earlier post this challenge).

Complted charriot with crewman and a mummy as it's important passenger.
Tw Horse skulls and two human skulls on this model.

The mummy can be seen better from this angle, I'm out of suitable grass tufts
for a desert so these will be added at a later date when I restock!

I have adjusted this mummy figure by replacing the head with a GW Tomb King's head and adding a rather large spear, again from the GW kit. Painting is basis the same procedures that I have previously detailed.

Close-up of eth crew compartment

And a departing rear shot

By way of a departure on the Undead front I am looking to put together an 'allied' unit of Greek Undead skeletons, armed with spears, the classic round hoplite shields and typical ancient Greek helmets with flamboyant crests.

Completed 5 x Greek Undead Infantry,
I'm cheekily claiming 5 Skull points for these guys, although the
skulls are completly enclosed by their Attic Helmets

Another angle, sorry the auto-focus on camera is messed up by the long spears!

I'm also looking to paint these as specifically Undead Spartans, so the colour theme for the unit will be Red & bone! The figures are Wargames Atlantic Skeleton Infantry  and shields, swords and helmets are 'liberated' from a Warlord Games box of Ancient Spartans.

Again the bases will be improved when I get more grass tufts

Size wise, these two figure sets are a good fit together, a little thinner and shorter than GW Tomb Kings, painting wise it is a similar recipe to the Egyptians above. Cream undercoat, GW Skeleton Horde speedpaint, dry-brushed a bone colour when dry and highlighted with near white.

A Close-up on two of the Greek Undead

Clothes (well rags),  Helmet crests are red, to fit in with the Spartan vibe, with black spear poles and  Brass spear blades, helmets & shields with a red 'V' transfers were used to finish them off.

The other three Greek Undead

Next is another 8 x 28mm Renaissance Crossbowmen, again I won't repeat my painting method as it is the same as noted last week!

Finally the whole of this week's batch!

AHPC XVI: From Mike W - 28mm Daleks & Renaissance Crossbowmen (140 Points)

This week I have a rather strange mix of Sci-Fi and historical Renaissance Crossbowmen, all in 28mm, the crossbowmen are part of a larger batch that I hope to get completed by next week's post, for the time being here are 7 of the little guys.

The Dalek batch completed this week

I have described the painting proess for the daleks in earlier posts and these follow the same steps. I have gone for a retro silver and blue scheme for these guys, just because I like the colours. these may not be entirely 'historically' accurate but fit in with the vibe of other Dalek models finished by club members.

Close-up of some of the alien fiends....

Just for the record thats about 960 little blue hemispheres painted onto these guys! plus 40 little orange lights... Luckily I don't give up easily.

And another view!

The 20 x Daleks are for an upcoming club game set during the Dalek Civil War, thus the need for large numbers of the robotic menaces!

A slightly different angle

The specials! 'Brewed-up' Daleks at each end.
A Warlord Games miniature second left with truely retro bodywork
and a battle damaged Dalek second right.

As with previous year's when I have done Daleks, I have included a couple of casualties. This is the result of using bulk buys of cheap plastic dalek figures, where some of them inevitably end up arriving broken or with parts missing.

I have painted these up as regular Daleks but then used the whispy packing material used by Perry Miniatures (and others) and teased this out to represent smoke. Some yellow and orange paint plus daps of super glue keep this all in place and make a good representation of a Dalek 'Brewing-up!'!

One with rear damage, a Warlord Games mini

And one with frontal damage, from front cover of a magazine

The next group is of 7 x 28mm Renaissance Crossbowmen, this was a group of figures I obtained from eBay, they aaaare 3D printed figures which were sold en masse, at a discount, as they didn't have any heads. I supplied heads from Games Workshop, Wargames Atlantic and Warlord Games renaissance figures.

First seven of these 3D Crosbowmen

Another view

and the final view of the week

Once 'whole' the figures were undercoated in cream and then I used various speed pains and regular paints to dress them before a wash of watered down Dark Tone from Army Painter. Once dry they were varnished and bases flocke diin my normal manner. I have about a dozen more of these little guys to get completed over the next couple weeks.

AHPC XVI: Mike W: 28mm Zombicide Xenos, Survivors & Undead Egyptians (120 Points)

This week  I have returned to a couple of themes that I began thus year's challenge with. Namely some Zombicide Invader figures and some Undead Egyptians!

My first figure is of a Survivor, 'Preacher Karl'  dressed in largely black and blue attire, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

Preacher Karl, showing teh blued armour nicely.

As usual a light undercoat followed by a wash of black speed paint. The artwork for this character hinted at some blue, so I decided to use a blue speed paint was on all armour and leatherwork.

Karl's other side!

Weapons, visor and backpack were painted in gun metal with a light black ink wash finishes this guy off nicely.

The Xenos group

The rest of the Zombicide batch was made up of 13 Xenos of various types. 3 x Tanks, 4 x Hunters and 6 x Workers, all done using the recipe I have described in previous posts.

Closer view

Difference thus time was that I was little impatient in applying the AP Rune Grey Speed Paint over the undercoat on the Workers!

Resulting in a lighter grey finish to these guys. I was annoyed at first but then realised even Xenos would likely have different skin tones, so I'm more relaxed about it now...

You can just make out the lighter complexion of some of these guys

The three Xenos Tanks, a worry for any survivor!

The four Hunters

In this group we're also 3 x Sentenal Guns, robotically controlled heavy weapons. I gave these a basic gun metal finish.

And the six Workers

First of the views of the Sentinal Guns

And the reverse view.

Next up are a batch of undead Egyptians, some may say Khemri, I prefer to be a little less specific. THe figures are form a game called Ankh, which has some pretty cool Egyptian Gods figures, which I my get around to later.

5x Mummies
Again aaaaa cream undercoat followe dby a diluted AP Dark Ink wash and a follow-up drybrushhhhing of light cream bandage colouration. Gold was added to taste and weapons and shields styled to fit in with my existing undead army.

Two mummies painted as the manufacturers envisaged - no conversion work!

I did some convertung on three of the mummies, giving one a whip - to make him into a Discipline Lord, whist the other two where given GW shields and a sword or a spear.

Finished conversions.

To add to the mummies were the other three undead cat swarms that I sourced frm th esame eBay outlet as the mummies. I now have a total of 4 Cat swarms and these will operate much as traditional Khemri Beetle swarms

Not sure if any of the cats were originally lucky black cats....

but they've used up all their nine lives!
Finally a solitary Night Goblin, lost form last week's Greenskin batch when I was moving my office / studio furniture around after decorating the room!

Once lost and now found

AHPC XVI: From GrahameH -15mm Russian and Austrian Napoleonic. 272pts

A very quick post this week as I am still trying to finish rebasing a few armies that I started before the challenge began. I had thought I had finished painting my Russian and Austrian Napoleonic armies last month, but I found these so thought I better get them done.

Napoleonic Austrian

Half a Regiment of Austrian Cuirassiers (which means at some point I will have to purchase the other half!!!). Why do Austrian units have to be so large? 24 AB figures (96 pts)

Russian Napoleonic

2/3 of a Russian Artillery Battery. Again AB Miniatures. (48 pts)

Russian Cuirassier Regiment

30 AB Figures (120 pts)

Finally the Command group for my Guard Cossacks (8 pts)

That's it. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. The figures do look better in real life honest.

AHPC XVI: From Mike W - 28mm Greenskins (105 Points)

So after a hiatus in my painting production last week, I'm gradually getting back into the swing, albeit that this post is a smaller contribution that I'm usually able to do.

This week I present a group of 21 Greenskins - 20 x Orcs plus one Night Goblin!

The completed batch of Greeskins

The reason for my hiccup in painting was that I succumbed to my wife's entirely reasonable request to redecorate my office / studio room! It's very hard to argue that I'm no good with a big paintbrush when I spend so much time painting with little ones! ðŸ˜€

Some big 1:1 scale painted terrain!

I was thinking I could claim a point or two basis this work being classed as terrain but no, that would bee too cheeky.

Back to the Orcs, the painting method was exactly the same as previously described an the 20 Orcs and single Night Goblin will be distributed to add numbers to existing regiments in my collection.

Another view of the Greenskins

Close-up of the Orcs

So 5 more Orcs Biguns to join the regiments I already have

Three shield armed Orcs, two with spears and one with
choppa to re-enforce existing regiments

First smaller group of the 12 x Orc Archers that are in this batch

The 3 x Skulls I'm claiming for in this post are clearly seen here!

Final shot of thee Orcs and the stray Night Goblin!

Hopefully lots more figures in the next couple weeks - until some re-carpeting needs to be done.....
