No Concessions or Compromise with the Secess
Fellow Comrades of Vermont our just cause witnesses new deeds of valour and sacrifice. The name of Fredericksburg will forever resonate in our hearts as the place where we have shown again our resolve to carry the fight to the enemy!!
Following our Commanders Direct Orders you have shown that we can overcome the enemy despite them holding walls and heights, and to plant our Divisional flag in the heart of their positions. They have withdrawn not being able to contemplate the thought of another assault by such brave boys. We shall regather our strength as all good and true men flock to the colours and continue to confront the enemy. We have also sought to exchange prisoners with all good intentions, but we have heard with both disgust and incredulity in equal measure that all our Massachusetts’s comrades basely tricked into capture have been returned to a state of servitude. This injustice and affront to all decent humanity cannot and will not be allowed to stand. It shows if any right minded man needed convincing how base their cause is and the depths to which they will seek to avoid the day of judgement for inflicting this cruel unnecessary and unjust war upon our fair land. So from this day forward our position is “No Concessions or Compromise with the Secess”
I too have suffered previously as my own Dear Brother was cruelly taken while fighting with his men. Be it known I will not leave this Army until his memory and the memory of all your fallen comrades has been satisfied by the total and utter defeat of the enemy. So again I say “No Concessions or Compromise with the Secess”
"Officers look to your men, Men look to your weapons and we march on”
